About SVG for Cricut
Cricut machines cut paths, not pixels. Upload a PNG to Design Space and you either get a single flat print-then-cut image or have to erase the background by hand. An SVG gives you clean outlines, one layer per colour, ready for vinyl, iron-on or cardstock.
Here, every colour in your image becomes its own layer, shapes never overlap or leave gaps, and you can remove the background in one click.
Tips for the best result
Match colours to your vinyl
Set Colours to the number of vinyl colours you'll layer. Two-colour designs are the easiest to weed.
Use Black & white for single-colour cuts
For one-colour decals, stencils and iron-on, Black & white gives one clean layer.
Remove the background first
Then Design Space won't cut a box around your design.
In Design Space
Upload, choose the SVG, and each colour arrives as a layer. Use Attach to keep layers in place, and Weld if you want one piece.
Questions
Is it free?
Yes. Converting and downloading is free, with no signup and no watermark. Everything runs in your browser, so there's no queue and no daily limit.
Does this work with Silhouette too?
Yes. Silhouette Studio Designer Edition and above open SVGs. The basic edition can import DXF, which you can also download here.
Why are there tiny pieces in my cut?
Small specks in the original become tiny shapes. Reduce the number of colours, or choose Logo, which merges small spots into their neighbours.
Can I use any image I find online?
Only if you have the right to. Designs you made, or bought with a commercial licence, are fine.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Your browser does the conversion on your own device, so the file never reaches our server. That also makes it fast: there's no upload or download wait.
